Our mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. Our vision is that all young people reach their full potential.
Our BIG Group Activities program serves youth and families on our waitlist and in our programs. With average wait-times of months and sometimes even a year, the project serves our waitlisted youth by providing social, educational, cultural and creative activities while they wait for a mentor. It connects youth and families to supportive staff that foster positive relationships during their journey through our services. BIG Group Activities also give our staff the opportunity to get to know mentors, mentees and families better, thus enabling them to make stronger mentoring matches.
BIG Group Activities range from gym nights, to cooking classes, to paint ball excursions to visits to the museum and Science Centre, to board game nights, to art classes, to Pow Wow classes to name only a few. To reduce barriers we aim to offer transportation to events. As we all know, food brings people together and we aim to have snacks on hand at each event that are nourishing and able to be sent home with families who are in need.
Depending on the activity, there are anywhere from 20-60 people at a BIG Group Activity, with an average price of $1000.
