About the Community Foundation.
We operate as the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation for the region (Davidson and south to the border). We recently started using the Saskatchewan Community Foundation legal operating name for provincial partnerships. This is also used to serve municipalities who are not already served by existing Community Foundations in the province.
Did you know you can plant a seed today that grows and gives forever?
The Community Foundation has existed for over 56 years. We build, protect, and honour legacies for generations to come.
- We have protected every donation made to a Legacy Fund, for our entire history.
- Our model allows us to be fully sustainable.
- We do not rely on donations, grants, sponsorships, or government.
- We are sustainable because of the donors and families who have trusted us with Legacy Funds. We rely on investment earnings to support our small but mighty team.
- We are one of the largest non-government funders of the charitable sector and are built to last for generations to come.
- We would love to chat with how we can build, protect, and honour your legacy, forever. We can help you support the community and charities you love.
- (We also offer spend-down funds and flow-through funds options. This is for people who want granting efficiencies. It is also for those who want their funds to have an expiry date.)
BUILD
Starting your own personal legacy fund is easy.

- Any person, family, or business can start a fund at the Community Foundation with as little as $100.
- You and your family can create your own private or public foundation fund. You can donate during your lifetime or through an estate gift.
- We are a registered charity, meaning you receive various tax benefits. Specific tax benefits depend on the assets you transfer.
- We make it an easy process to create a lasting legacy for your family or business.
PROTECT
Our main purpose is to protect your donations, forever. Thus helping you support the communities and charities you love.

- Your wishes are outlined in a legal deed of gift.
- In 56 years, we have protected every dollar donated. This means we use administration fees for our operational costs. All administration fees come from investment earnings, not the dollar donated.
- Your donations are pooled with other legacy funds. Our assets are now over $125 million, allowing us to offer great returns on your donations.
- Through the investment earnings, investment management fees are usually 0.5%. Our charitable operations amount between 1.0% to 1.5% depending on the size of your fund. And the charities you love receive about 3.5% to 5.0% per year.
- Our average earnings are close to 8% historically. Our five year average earnings is over 10%. The left over earnings go back to your fund and allow it to continue to grow each year.
HONOUR
Our goal is to honour you or your families legacy forever. To celebrate lives well lived.

- Your impact on the communities and charities you love will live on for generations to come.
- A one-time gift is wonderful, but you can also leave a planned gift. For example, giving through an estate can be an everlasting way to leave your legacy. The communities and charities you love will then receive grants from your legacy fund, forever. This gives them sustainable and predictable funding.
- You can have peace of mind that your impact will be felt long after you have left this life.
Did you know?
- Around 17% of Saskatchewan tax filers donate to charity, but only between 5% and 8% leave charitable gifts in their Will.¹
- 31% of Canadians are interested in leaving a gift of charity in their Will. ²
- According to CAGP, 26% of Canadians over 55 plan to leave a charitable gift in their Will, while 72% of Canadians under the age of 55 plan to leave a charitable gift in their Will.³
- The average person writes their first Will between 45-55 and a large percentage never rewrite it.⁴
Your legacy, forever.
- Through legacy giving, your donation is planted as a seed that grows and gives back to the causes you care about each year.
- Proactive estate planning can make a difference. You can take care of loved ones while minimizing your estate tax burden through generous giving to charitable causes.
- Talk to your family about the importance of giving back to create a strong and vibrant community. Future generations will thank you!
- Monetary donations, life insurance policies, real estate, RRSPs/RRIFs, and stocks are some examples of ways you can give.
