Our Foundation

Here at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation we believe in facilitating Saskatchewan values, supporting local charities and developing our community so that our home is a more vital, strong, and fair place to live, work and play.

Founded in 1969, South Saskatchewan Community Foundation (SSCF) invests for the long-term with legacy (endowment) Funds that focus on long-term impact in our community. In addition to distributing grants to worthy causes throughout the year, we pool many visionary Saskatchewan citizens and organizations’ donations – investing them together for a higher return. This allows donors to see their donations grant out to charities not just once, but year after year.  It provides sustainable funding to the charitable sector for generations to come.

Our History

What We Do

Funds, Grants & Scholarships

SSCF invests for the long-term with Endowment Funds that focus on impact in our communities. In addition to distributing grants to worthy causes throughout the year, we pool Funds for many visionary donors and organizations – we invest the assets for a higher return. This investment allows donors to make their charitable grants not just once but year after year.

Including a charitable bequest in your will or making a gift of life insurance are simple ways
to make a lasting gift and leave a legacy for your community. Making gifts of these types through
the Foundation benefits the community well into the future, while providing maximum tax benefits and peace of mind to donors and their loved ones.

Vital Signs Reporting

Vital Signs© is a community check-up that measures the region’s health and vitality, identifies significant trends, and provides in-depth, up-to-date information about the people in these communities and the environments in which they live, work, and go to school. Local data gathered through the program is used to support evidence-based, locally-relevant solutions to improve the quality of life at the community level.

The Vital Signs Community Network (VSCN) brings together like-minded organizations and community leaders to stay informed and to encourage collaboration and partnerships so that together we can best address the needs of today and prepare for the needs of tomorrow. VSCN members act as a sounding board for the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of its community engagement and knowledge sharing, in particular its Vital Signs© research to enhance the Foundation’s ability to provide community leadership.

How We Plan to Make Our Vision a Reality

The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation’s (SSCF) strategic plan includes service-driven priorities to leverage our mission to advance community well-being. We do this by supporting and assisting charities, individuals, and companies so they can achieve their charitable goals and dreams.

Our service-driven priorities include monitoring investments, adhering to a regularly reviewed investment policy and using third-party expertise. Together, these priorities ensure pooled investments meet reasonable and acceptable targets consistent with best practices, performance and the Foundation’s fiduciary responsibility.

Which Communities Do We Serve?

When we started out in 1969 as the Regina Community Foundation, we primarily served Regina and the surrounding area. Over 5 decades later, we are proud to expand our services all across Southern Saskatchewan. Since 1990, we’ve expanded our reach to communities as far north as Davidson; 33 years later we have impacted a total of 482 communities and supported 219 charities.
