Nicole Obrigavitch is the Executive Director of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan where she works to support women and gender diverse folks that have come into conflict with the justice system. Nicole has a passion for social justice and believes that a just society begins with housing, education, reconciliation, social development and community support for those facing barriers. Nicole was previously the housing manager at Kamloops Elizabeth Fry Society, has done regional advocacy work with the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies.
Nicole grew up in Saskatchewan and has degrees in Sociology and Law from the University of Saskatchewan. Nicole articled with the Appeals Department of the Legal Services Society of British Columbia and then practiced immigration law in Vancouver and worked as Crown Counsel in Surrey for a short time. With a background that includes personal lived experience of addiction, incarceration, and recovery, Nicole calls herself a “recovery advocate” and publicly shares her story with different groups when asked. With that, she strives to reduce societal stigma around addiction and raise awareness by correcting misinformation, supporting the recovery efforts of others and promoting harm reduction, accessible treatment options and sober living facilities.
