Not Every Dog is Maya Fund

Our family is so lucky to have the companionship of a gentle, white-faced golden retriever named Maya. Right from day one she was eager to please and took being part of the family as the highest of honors. Easy to train and even easier to love, Maya has always been the talk of the town as she walks herself down the street, her leash in her mouth with her typical Golden Retriever wiggle butt in full swing!

Her good nature was only further emphasized when her companion came home – a German Shepherd named Farley! Farley showed up with his own ideas of what he should and should not do, and encouraged us all to learn a lot of discipline and patience as we learned that ‘not every dog was Maya’ when it came to training and manners!

Although our family’s love of dogs means that we have lint rollers in every room for guests (because we see it as ‘magical fibers of joy and happiness’), it means we go for ‘walkies’ every day, shop for ‘foodies’ and ‘bedtime cookies’ are the only things that make bedtime official; we know that not all dogs live their lives as fortunately as Maya and Farley.

There are countless local and national dog rescues and shelters helping rescue abandoned and abused dogs to find a safe place to rest, recover, and rehabilitate until they find their fur-ever family. We continuously see calls for fosters and requests for donations to pay medical expenses and we wanted to help!

But much to our dismay, taking in more dogs is not an option, so we did the next best thing we could think of – we created a legacy fund to help financially support the organizations and volunteers who are able to help. Through the fundraising efforts this summer of our ten year old, Kynlee, some help from her older brother, Korbyn, and some matching donations on our end we were able to start our fund ‘Not Every Dog is Maya’ to ensure that even if every dog doesn’t start out like Maya, we can do our part to help them all get there eventually!

Our initial idea was to create a legacy fund for our family to build; however, the support Kynlee received when fundraising indicated that this was a cause near and dear to the hearts of many dog lovers so we graciously accept public donations to our fund from those who also wish they could adopt or foster ALL the puppies but realistically need to be more creative in how they support this cause!
