Truth and Reconciliation Fund ~
Advancing our Commitment to Indigenous Peoples
The Truth and Reconciliation Fund is aims to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. This Fund is intended to address programs that will help advance Calls to Action in the areas of education, culture, and language. For example, this may include opportunities for children, youth and families to reconnect to their culture by providing opportunities such as workshops, events, classes that offer individuals and families connection to Elders, communities, and the land. Over the past several years, we have seen an overwhelming and increasing demand from the community. It now needs public donor partnerships to sustain momentum today while securing a long-term source of support for tomorrow.
We are seeking partners to donate $300K to the TRF’s Flow-Through Fund each year to be granted directly back to charitable organizations chosen by the TRF’s Indigenous-led granting committee in the immediate.
We are also seeking partners to help us reach our $7M goal for the Legacy Fund, an endowed fund to grow and support Indigenous-focused causes, forever. This would equate to approximately $350K granted back year after year, forever.
The Overwhelming Need is Clear
Since the grant opportunity launched in late 2022, we have seen over $2.16M requested through 108 applications. Due to our limited funding capacity, we have only been able to distribute $546.5K through 57 grants as of July, 2024. It is clear to us that the need for this funding is high, and we need support in order to meet this need.
The Launch of a Legacy
Through the generous bequest of an anonymous donor, the Foundation’s board allocated approximately $600K over the span of two years to initiate the Truth and Reconciliation Fund. This seed funding helped the Foundation establish relationships with key Indigenous community members who guide the Fund and to provide grants to essential community programs. It also helped plant an initial donation of $100K to establish the Legacy Fund.
In 2022, the Truth and Reconciliation Fund was launched as a grant opportunity for Saskatchewan-based charities to fund programming that addresses the Calls to Action, mainly focusing on Education, Culture, and Language. An Indigenous-led group of advisors oversee and make decisions regarding the purpose of the Fund and granting to charitable organizations.

We Need Your Help for Sustainable Support: $7M by 2030
We need more resources to sustain this funding opportunity so that we can respond, support, and celebrate Indigenous-focused causes right where we live, together. It’s imperative to keep the momentum going to address the immediate demand for the fund. We are seeking partners to keep the grant opportunity consistent, year after year. We also need help growing the Truth and Reconciliation Legacy Fund – a legacy fund intended to become a self-sustaining long-term source of support. By growing this fund, we can increase the amount of organizations within Saskatchewan who will receive support in creating, operating, and sustaining the programs working towards the Calls to Action focused on Education, Culture, and Language.
