Helping to Eliminate Hunger
Thank you for putting hope on the table. At a time of provincial economic prosperity it seems out of place that the role of food banks remains critical to ensuring for security for an average of 9,000 people each month. The effects of rising costs in a growing economy, particularly housing, impact those on fixed or low income disproportionately.
The South Saskatchewan Community Foundation and its many generous supporters has allowed us to provide essential services in many ways, importantly – ensuring a meal on the table for an average of the 250 families we serve daily in a welcoming, safe and accessible environment. Your support has enabled us to ensure choice and dignity in our offering through Canada’s first in house grocery store the Village Market. Our commercial kitchen produces food, education and employment opportunities all aimed at independence and full participation in our community.
The ACERT (adult center for employment readiness and training) continues to feed the mind and spirit through providing valuable training and development opportunities in partnership with other community agencies and resources. These programs focus on employment readiness and training with the goal of facilitating the opportunity to be fully engaged and contributing in the community and eliminating the reliance on charitable feeding and food security programs. More important than these activities is who we are privileged to serve. The face of hunger may surprise you. It is working families, single parents, seniors, students and sons, daughters, grandchildren and people just like you and I.
We often speak of the Regina Food Bank as a community asset. The team that opens the doors each and every day is truly your ambassadors within the community and we are proud to be the stewards of your support and generosity. We are only able to meet these challenges through the continued support of the community. From everyone at the Regina Food Bank and most importantly whose we serve: 9,000 thank yous! Congratulations to the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation for your community leadership and continued support.
