Phoenix Residential Society Receives $7.5K to Enhance Indigenous Programming
February is Indigenous Storytelling Month. We’d like to take a moment to appreciate a recent grant recipient working to enhance Indigenous culture in our community.
In 2021, Phoenix Residential Society received $7,500 from the G. Murray and Edna Forbes Foundation Fund for their Cultural Enhancement Program.
The program exists to support and enhance Indigenous programming for individuals in the Phoenix HOMES Housing First program. The funding allows them to support individuals through activities such as cultural camps, sweats, taking individuals to pick up medicines, or accessing Elders regularly.
This grant is allowing Phoenix to provide access to cultural supports to individuals who otherwise would not be able to access them.
Many of our program participants struggle to connect to cultural supports due to a variety of barriers. Through the generosity and support from the G. Murray and Edna Forbes Foundation Fund, we are able to bring the supports to the individuals so they can continue on their healing journeys.
Kendra Giles, Innovative Housing Programs Manager at Phoenix Residential Society
