Janet Barber Reflects on Six Years on SSCF’s Board of Directors

Meet Janet Barber. Janet has served on SSCF’s Board of Directors since 2015 and is retiring from the Board in June.

Janet initially joined the Board because she had a strong family connection to SSCF through her in-laws who established the Lloyd and Duna Barber Family Foundation Fund with SSCF. After one of Janet’s sons was tragically killed in an accident, her and her family started the Doug Barber Memorial Fund with SSCF to honour him while giving back to the community.

Reflecting on her experiences as both a Board member and fundholder at SSCF, Barber says, “I think of SSCF as an umbrella that amalgamates several Funds to give your donation a better bang for your buck. It opens up opportunities to support many charities and expands possibilities you may have never considered before. It is a wonderful vehicle that can help you achieve your philanthropic goals.”

Janet fondly looks back on six years of service on SSCF’s Board, saying “I have many great memories of my interactions with Board colleagues and learning how to be on a Board myself. Some of my favourite memories involve visiting the charities we granted to, meeting the people involved and seeing community impact firsthand. I remember going to the North Central Family Centre and seeing all the appreciative faces of the kids and being warmed by how happy they were. Another memory was of our tour at the Regina Food Bank where I witnessed so many people working so hard to fix food insecurity.”

The staff and Board have truly appreciated the knowledge and community passion that Janet brings to the table. We will miss her presence but we know she will always be a friend to the Foundation. We thank her for sharing her time and talents with us over these past six years.
