Past Summer Student Appreciation of the Community Foundation ~ Brooklyn Coulson

Brooklyn Coulson, a former summer student at the Community Foundation, provided a thoughtful testimonial about her experience. She reflected on how she went from a student to her current position as the Digital Impact Officer. We feel her words can provide unique glimpse into how the student program can open new doors. Please read Brooklyn’s reflection below.

My journey with the Community Foundation has been such a unique and amazing experience to say the least. I started out as a summer student, hired to see the completion of an engineering course project that turned into the 2023 Growing Futures Vital Signs website. The trust and creative freedom they gave for this project was unlike anything I experienced before, and it motivated me to utilize my skills to the best of my ability. Since then, I've been trusted to design and lead many different website projects like redesigning the Foundation's primary website, developing the SUMAInvest website, creating the Charity Resource Hub, and spearheading the Charity Website Collaboration Program.

As a student turned permanent employee, the Community Foundation not only provided an environment for me to grow; they have given me the tools, confidence and support to thrive. The Summer Student Program opened so many doors for me and has challenged me to become the best version of myself. I highly recommend this program to any student out there wanting a hands-on, unique, and fulfilling work experience. You'll be able to develop meaningful and transferable skills while also building up your community, and honestly? It doesn't get any better than that.
