Flow-Through Funds

The Community Foundation can be the engine that drives your fundraising behind the scenes.

Flow-Through (Non-Endowed) Funds allow charities to focus on making impact in the community, while the Community Foundation takes care of the backend administration. Whether used for day-to-day fundraising or during a capital campaign, the Community Foundation has the tools to facilitate online donations, process unique gifts (such as publicly-traded securities and mineral rights), and issue charitable tax receipts to donors. Funds continue to earn interest as part of the Community Foundation’s investment portfolio and can be withdrawn in whole or in part at anytime. Like a “charitable savings account”, the Community Foundation can help reduce the administrative burden so that charities can focus on creating impact in the community.

We Can Help Reduce the Administrative
Burden on Your Team

A Flow-Through Account can be considered a “charitable savings account.” As donations are made to the Fund, the Community Foundation issues charitable tax receipts to the donors.

While held in the Flow-Through Account, assets are typically invested as part of the Community Foundation’s investment pool and grow with earnings. Organizations may also elect for their Flow-Through Account to be kept outside of the investment pool for a more conservative investment approach.

You have access to the full balance of the Flow-Through Account and can withdraw at any time.

Donation Processing

Streamline your donation management with support from the Community Foundation to accept and process gifts to your Fund.

Customized Solutions

The Community Foundation can build a customized online donation page and other branded assets for your organization.

Benefit from the Investment Pool

While funds are held in the Flow-Through Account, they benefit from the investment pool and continue growing from earnings.

Trusted Third-Party

Funds can be withdrawn at any time from your Flow-Through Account, whether to support operations or finance a new build.

Getting Started is Easy

1. Connect with us

Start a conversation with our team about the different fund types available to you, as well as the purpose of your fund. We’re always happy to present at Finance Committees and Board Meetings if your organization is wanting more information.

2. Board motion

The Board Motion documents the intentions of your organization to establish a fund or multiple funds with the Community Foundation. Suggested text for the Board Motion can be found below:

We approve of and authorize [Name, Title] to finalize the terms of the agreement(s) with the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation.

Our team will work with you to finalize the agreement(s), including the name of your Fund, your Fund purpose, and the value of your initial contribution.
