SUMMER STUDENT
Please Note: We are looking to fill multiple Summer Student positions.
Position Summary:
The Community Foundation has a robust student program that largely looks to fill positions over the summer, but some fall and winter work is available. Many of the students will be assigned specific projects but the core positions relate to Community Engagement Specialists. These roles are integral to supporting the Foundation’s mission of facilitating Saskatchewan philanthropy, supporting local charities, and developing our community. The Summer Students will work closely with the Director of Finance & Strategic Operations and other staff to build relationships with donors and charities, assist with events, and contribute to the Foundation’s overall goals.
Strategic Alignment of the Position:
The Summer Students play a crucial role in enhancing the Foundation’s impact by expanding relationships with donors and charities, supporting community engagement initiatives, and contributing to the Foundation’s strategic goals of increasing charitable contributions and fostering community development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning: Work as a unit with Community Foundation staff to build goals and actionable project plans for the summer. Utilize each other’s strengths to execute project plans, with supervision and regular feedback from staff.
- The annual Friendraiser is the largest event at the Foundation and each year, a number of students are able to organize the entire event covering every aspect of event planning. This includes sponsorships, charity engagement, donor invitations, décor, vendor and supplier management, day-of management, and all other aspects of event planning.
- Plan and execute other smaller events involving the public and current contacts. Develop plans while learning about project management principles, including time, scope, cost, and quality.
- Donor Relations: Build and expand lasting relationships with donors, ensuring they feel valued and connected to the Foundation.
- Community Engagement: Assist with connecting and hosting events to build relationships with charities, and identify new connections and charities to engage with.
- Digital Content: Help maintain, create content, and moderate information for the Foundation's public-facing website and social media platforms.
- Client Service: Focus on client service, teamwork, communication, digital skills, and leadership. Expand into change management, project management, time management, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications:
- Professional attitude and appearance.
- Ability to work in a small team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Significant experience using word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, and related office administration software.
- Demonstrated ability to meet timelines and targeted outcomes.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Skills and tact needed to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
- Experience developing and monitoring organization messaging for social media.
Eligibility:
As this is in collaboration with the Employment and Social Development Canada Summer Student Program, participants must be:
- Between 15 – 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
- A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. Note: International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Job Details:
- The positions are a minimum of 30 hours per week from May – August (approximately 12 – 16 weeks) and we are open to discussions on start and end dates. Extension of fall and winter work are based on budget limitations and skills of students.
- Hours of operation are from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
- Hourly wage: beginning at $20.00 and increases $1/year up to $24.00, paid bi-weekly.

- Director of Finance & Strategic Operations reports to the Executive Director.

- Work Week:
- One of the great benefits of working at the Community Foundation is that our salaries are based on a 35-hour work week, rather than the standard 40 hours. This means you get the same competitive salary while enjoying a better work-life balance with more personal time each week. - Vacation:
- Vacation pay is paid out on each paycheque.
- The Foundation observes twelve paid holidays, including New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Saskatchewan Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (reviewed annually). This is two more than the Saskatchewan Statutory holidays.
- Donation Matching Program
- The Foundation offers an annual matching donation program of up to $1,200 to any Legacy (Endowment) Fund held at the Foundation, encouraging community giving by employees and supporting the long-term sustainability of the Foundation and local charities. This matching program is made possible by an anonymous donation.
- Work-Life Balance: Benefit from flexible hours and a hybrid work environment that allows you to balance your professional and personal life effectively.
